KNOWLEDGE BASE
DESCRIPTION: How does A2000ERP Web handle global discounts in an invoice?
A2000ERP WEB DOES NOT HANDLE GLOBAL DISCOUNS
The system does not handle global discounts anymore, since we moved the system to handle GST/VAT at the line level. It is disallowed because the line items could consist of multiple GST types and percentages in each line. A global discount applied on the bill cannot backflow that discount to the line items, where we need to re-gross the GST tax. Example:
Assuming the user gives a 20% Global Discount on $2000 (resulting in $1600), the system has no way to apportion the 20% on the GST Amount
CAN WE USE THE ROUNDING DISCOUNT FIELD?
No, you cannot use the rounding discount field. It is typically limited only to a non-material 1-cent as it cannot take into account GST/VAT in the transaction.
HOW CAN WE APPLY GLOBAL DISCOUNT TO A TRANSACTION?
All global discounts should be entered in the line detail as an amount with tax code selected.
- Create a service product in Product & Service Maintenance
- Assuming you want to apply a $50 discount to a bill, enter -1 as Quantity and $50.00 as the Unit Price. The row will then reflect as -$50 and net off at the sub-total.
NOTE: A negative value at line item is allowed only if (a) it is a service item, (b) the negative value is entered in the Quantity field and (c) the negative value in that line does not cause the sub-total to be less than zero.
3. Save transaction and the global discount is applied.
